East Central Florida Saltwater Fishing Forecast for October
PONCE INLET AND DAYTONA BEACH
October in Ponce Inlet and Daytona Beach offers excellent opportunities for catching snook, redfish, and tarpon around jetty rocks and bridge pilings. Early mornings and late evenings are particularly productive, with live baits like croakers, mullet, or pinfish yielding great results. Inshore anglers will find black drum and speckled trout in the lagoon's backwaters, especially around areas with seagrass and baitfish.
PORT CANAVERAL
Port Canaveral continues to be a hotspot for inshore species like redfish and speckled trout. These fish are often found under mangrove roots along the Indian and Banana River Lagoon systems. Soft plastic lures and live shrimp are top choices here. Additionally, anglers can target mangrove snapper and black drum near bridges, while baby tarpon are becoming more active in residential canals.
SEBASTIAN INLET
The waters around Sebastian Inlet are clearing up, making it a prime location for targeting snook, pompano, bluefish, and ladyfish. Using live bait like fingerling mullet or shrimp during the daytime, or topwater plugs and soft plastic jerk baits during dawn and dusk, will increase your chances of a successful catch. Baby tarpon are also starting to appear in the Sebastian River, providing an exciting challenge for anglers.
PALM BAY AND COCOA BEACH
Palm Bay and Cocoa Beach offer a mix of inshore and nearshore fishing opportunities in October. Inshore, anglers can find redfish and spotted seatrout around docks and mangroves in the Indian River Lagoon. Nearshore, cobia and tripletail can be found around buoys and floating debris. The early mornings and late afternoons are ideal times to fish, especially when using live baits like shrimp and mullet.
