The Recreational Fishing Industry Mobilizes for Hurricane Ian Recovery
Hurricane Ian made landfall on Sept. 28, 2022, near Fort Myers, Fla., bringing with it a devastating storm surge, flooding, and strong winds. Fort Myers, Naples, and surrounding areas experienced catastrophic damage that will take months to years to fully recover. Recreational angling is interwoven into these communities, and many professional captains and guides have been drastically impacted by this disaster.
Thankfully, many of our industry friends have announced some ways you can help Hurricane Ian relief and recovery efforts.

Contribute to Captains for Clean Water: Hurricane Ian Relief Fund
Hurricane Ian has taken a major toll on Florida communities, delivering devastating impacts, destroying homes, and displacing families. We’ve set up the Hurricane Ian Relief Fund to help get people back on their feet. 100% of funds donated will go directly to providing supplies and operational support to the ongoing relief and recovery efforts, including support to the local guide community, whose businesses have been impacted tremendously.

Donate to WARF (Worldwide Anglers Relief Fund) to support local fishing captains, guides, crews & outfitters.
Natural disasters demonstrate the devastating impacts that catastrophic weather, fire, and seismic events can have on the international recreational angling community. Anywhere in the world, on any day, at any time, a thriving recreational fishery can become a wasteland in a matter of hours in a major natural disaster. And the people who often create those recreational fisheries — the captains, guides, crews, and outfitters who depend on recreational fishing for their livelihoods— often find themselves in the center of the storm.
To address the impacts of these disasters and be prepared to respond to future catastrophes, the IGFA created the Worldwide Anglers Relief Fund (WARF) in 2017 with its partners at Costa Sunglasses. To date, the WARF has disbursed more than $225,000 to recreational angling associations in the Florida Keys, Texas, Puerto Rico, the Florida Panhandle, The Bahamas, Belize, the Gulf Coast, and Montana to help local captains and guides recover from natural disasters.
